Welcome to Written Rule of Sports!

That phrase has gone from a brainstormed logo to a hashtag, and now to a platform on Substack where I can share my writing.

Written Rule of Sports is a hockey-centric space, largely focusing on the Minnesota Frost and the PWHL (Professional Women’s Hockey League). I have more than a decade of experience as an award-winning sports writer covering a variety of sports, especially hockey, at multiple levels.

For me, women’s hockey coverage started with the Minnesota Whitecaps in their inaugural season, 2018-19, in the NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League, the professional league at the time). That league later rebranded as the PHF (Premier Hockey Federation) before folding in 2023 ahead of the PWHL’s launch.

Between the Whitecaps and Minnesota Frost, I’ve covered three professional women’s hockey championships for various media outlets. I’ve been there from the beginning of the PWHL and the Minnesota Frost, from a record-setting attendance mark in the inaugural game to championship celebrations on the floor of then-Xcel Energy Center, now Grand Casino Arena.

I hope you’ll follow along with me at Written Rule of Sports. Please consider subscribing so you never miss a new story and to support my work.

As always, thanks for reading!
